Work in Progress

As the title says, you will find pictured here knives that are in some stage of completion. Some are for a specific customer order and some may be available for purchase. If you see something you like, please inquire.

1948 Cuauhtemoc Cinco Pesos Coin Knife

This is a beautiful, large - 40mm - diameter coin, only minted in 1947 and 1948. The obverse shows Cuauhtemoc, the last king of the Aztec Empire. At the customers request, I added a loop in order to attach a silver chain. The coin knife could then also be worn as a necklace. The coin knife is shown here fit together with temporary pins so that I can adjust the blades and spring before riveting. COMPLETED

10" Chef Knife

Picture
10" Chef Knife
This is a LARGE 10" Chef Knife rough ground to sixty grit after heat treatment. The blade is constantly dipped in water to keep it cool and protect the temper. I'll next grind at one-hundred twenty grit, then two-hundred twenty. Then I'll start hand polishing - back down to one-hunred fifty, then two-hundred twenty, then four-hundred, then six-hundred grit. There is about fifty percent more steel in this knife than an 8.5" Chef Knife! COMPLETED

To the left is one of the 7" Cuchillo de Asador blades being scribed with a precision height gauge on a granite surface plate. Two parallel scribe lines are made to give a .020" edge thickness before heat treating. COMPLETED
